Where does LSU football's 2024 recruiting class need improvement? 3 recruiting questions

BATON ROUGE — It's time to check up on LSU football's 2024 recruiting class.

Following two new commitments and with the Tigers on their off-week, LSU's coaching staff will turn more of its attention toward finishing off its 2024 recruiting class with the early signing period coming on Dec. 20.

So where does LSU's 2024 class stand now? In what areas does it need improvement? And are there any potential commitments coming down the pipe for the Tigers?

Here are three questions surrounding LSU's 2024 class.

Where does LSU's 2024 class stand now?

LSU's 2024 class has 25 commitments, one fewer than last year's class.

The Tigers lost two pledges recently after four-star cornerback Ondre Evans and four-star wide receiver Joseph Stone decommitted last week. But LSU has since added commitments from three-star cornerback Bernard Causey and three-star athlete PJ Woodland who is also projected to play cornerback.

With Causey and Woodland on board, LSU has 14 players on defense — including five players who are projected to play cornerback — and 10 players on offense. The 25th player is three-star kicker Aeron Burrell.

Those 25 players give LSU the No. 12 recruiting class in the nation, according to 247Sports Composite. Four-star tight end Trey'Dez Green is the highest-rated recruit as the No. 42 player in the nation.

What holes does LSU still need to fill with its 2024 class?

More elite prospects.

LSU only has two players ranked in the top-100 nationally and doesn't have any five-star prospects committed to its 2024 class. Part of that is because Louisiana doesn't have the strongest pool of prospects this year, but the lack of elite players in the Tigers' recruiting class is unacceptable for a program of their caliber.

Outside of not having enough high-level recruits committed, LSU's 2024 class also has holes on the defensive line and could use more help on the offensive line.

The Tigers only have one interior defensive lineman committed to their class. Given how LSU could lose Mekhi Wingo and Maason Smith to the NFL this offseason, reloading at the position is paramount.

On the offensive line, the additions of Will Campbell, Lance Heard and Emery Jones were program changers for the Tigers. Another prospect of that caliber for LSU is needed, as it only has one four-star offensive lineman committed to its 2024 class.

Who are some potential additions to LSU's 2024 class?

The most likely addition to LSU's 2024 class is four-star wide receiver Dre'lon Miller.

Miller is the No. 14 wide receiver in the nation and the No. 11 player from Texas. He decommitted from Texas A&M last Tuesday and visited LSU during its beat down of Auburn in Week 7.

On3 Sports' recruiting prediction machine believes that LSU is the favorite to land Miller's commitment. If he commits to the Tigers, Miller will become their highest-rated wide receiver commitment and their third top-100 recruit nationally.

But the biggest name LSU has a chance of adding is five-star athlete Terry Bussey. Bussey is still committed to Texas A&M, but the No. 2 athlete in the nation visited LSU for the Auburn game and the Tigers were among his finalists before he committed to the Aggies.

Bussey to LSU may not be a slam dunk, but his name should be one to watch for Tiger fans as the early signing period approaches.
