What's happening with the Appleton Wendy's? The Buzz has answers.

APPLETON — The Wendy's in Appleton is temporarily closed, but the fast-food chain suggested it will return.

"We love being a part of the Appleton community, and we are working to bring Wendy’s back to the area for fans to enjoy their favorite menu items again in the near future," a company spokesperson said in an email to The Post-Crescent Friday morning.

Brown paper covered the windows and the signage was empty in the drive-thru lane at the Wendy's at 3300 S. Oneida St., as of Thursday afternoon. Wendy's website listed the location as "temporarily closed."

The Oneida location appears to be the last remaining Wendy's in the Fox Cities. In December, The Buzz reported that the Grand Chute Wendy's at 3815 W. Wisconsin Ave. permanently closed. Last fall, the Oshkosh Wendy's at 2360 Westowne Ave. also closed. But the corporate website still listed both locations as "temporarily" closed, as of Friday morning.

The Appleton, Grand Chute and Oshkosh locations are owned by Starboard Group, a Wendy's franchisee that recently filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection. Starboard Group did not immediately respond to a request for comment.
