Whatcom Roundup: New winery; popular coffee shop expanding; Texas Roadhouse update

Here’s your weekly roundup of the latest retail, business and restaurant activity in and around Whatcom County:

Makeworth Coffee plans expansion

Downtown Bellingham coffee shop Makeworth Coffee has filed a permit with the city to install a coffee roaster. The permit was submitted May 15 and had not been approved as of May 17. Makeworth is open from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. daily at 1201 N State St.

New winery and meadery in Bellingham

Thor’s Hammered, a domestic winery and meadery, has filed a permit through Whatcom County for a new location at 1555 Country Lane in Bellingham. No opening date or other information has been announced.

Texas Roadhouse progress

Texas Roadhouse is slowly making progress on its new location in Bellingham. The restaurant filed a new permit with the city for “new construction” with an estimated value of $218,000.

The permit was filed and approved on May 16. The restaurant is planned to be at 4331 Meridian St., the previous location of Billy McHale’s Restaurant.

WWU coffeehouse expansion

Western Washington University has filed a permit with the city for a coffeehouse remodel of the Viking Union. The permit was submitted on May 16 with an estimated cost of $82,500, and has not been approved as of May 17.
