Whale, whale, whale, what do we have here? See an unforgettable cameo during Olympic surfing event

The surfing competition is making waves at the 2024 Summer Olympics.

During the Aug. 5 women’s shortboard semifinal match between Brazil’s Tatiana Weston-Webb and Costa Rica’s Brisa Hennessy, a whale jumped out of the water.

“The Olympic surfing semi finalists had a WHALE stop by,” the NBC Olympics & Paralympics X account captioned its video of the moment.

The clip opens with the surfers in the water before the camera pans to the whale breaching, generating a big wave. The moment took place in Tahiti, where the Olympic surfing competition was being held.

Fans were very amused by the whale.

“Whale hello there,” someone wrote over a GIF of a whale in water.

“What was the score for the whale? seems like its trick was good!” another person joked.

“Free Willy wants the gold,” someone else quipped.

“That was not a 10! Maybe a tepid 6, but I’m being generous,” another user teased.

Weston-Webb won the match, but lost in the gold medal match to American Caroline Marks. Hennessy lost in the bronze medal match to France’s Johanne Defay.

The surfing competition has been the source of some amusement among viewers, as “Saturday Night Live” star Colin Jost was brought on to cover it for NBC, although he ended becoming the story when he revealed he got a staph infection in his foot.

"You know it’s going great when you’ve been to the Olympic medical tent more than any of the athletes," he captioned a photo of his bandaged toes on Instagram on July 29.
