WFISD high school students win national award

Hirschi High School in partnership with Rider High School and Wichita Falls High School has won the prestigious "Your Place in Space Challenge" organized by the U.S. Department of Education.

It's part of the annual CTEMomentum series which aims to equip high school students with the skills and knowledge for successful careers, according to a Wichita Falls ISD press release.

Hirschi's winning project is titled "AI Satellite System for Cybersecurity: Using Recycled Materials to Prevent Cyberattacks in Low Earth Orbit."

"The project focuses on the development of a cutting-edge security system utilizing advanced threat-detection algorithms to safeguard global networks against cyberattacks in Low Earth Orbit," the WFISD release said.

A total of 71 students from the three high schools participated in the project. Their award includes $6,250 toward a supplies fund, a simulated space mission experience and other resources.
