Westwood's Mia Wiele earns all-state soccer honors for second straight year

Two Westwood girls who have made the Warriors consistent winners the past few years have earned first-team all-state soccer honors.

The all-state team, selected by the Texas Association of Soccer Coaches, includes Westwood goalkeeper Sam Walker and Warriors midfielder Mia Wiele. Walker was credited with 87 saves and nine shutouts for a team that finished 14-3-4 overall and 11-1-2 in District 25-6A. Wiele, who earned all-state honors for the second straight year, led the Warriors with 14 goals and 15 assists.

On Thursday, Westwood coach Malcolm Framjee commented on his all-state players:

On Walker: "Sam is not only a great leader in our program; she's a tremendous talent who makes everyone better around her."

On Wiele: "Mia has the ability to take over any game at any moment with her incredible technical and tactical ability. At such a young age, she has such a bright future ahead of her."

Several other Austin-area players also were selected to the all-state team:

Girls

First team — F Emie Benson, Georgetown; MF Ava Black, Hendrickson; GK Neliaj Deleon, Georgetown; D Zahria Fuller, Hendrickson.

Second team — MF Amelia Clark, Lake Travis; F Paige Davis, Leander; D Maria Frazier, Leander; MF Sadie Guzman, Leander; F Kaylee McKinley, Hendrickson; MF Finley Newell, Georgetown.

Honorable mention — MF Jordin Donaldson, Wimberley.

Second team — MF Orlando Frias, Connally; D Alex Rodriguez, Connally; F Martin Valdes, Georgetown.

Honorable mention — D Austin Bint, Rouse; MF Kash Bussaraporn, Marble Falls; MF Rahul Gupra, Vandegrift; GK Yul Kim, Hendrickson.
