Westlake is Austin-area's lone Class 6A girls basketball team alive, but look at those 5As

Seven Austin-area girls basketball teams won area championships last weekend to advance to the regional quarterfinals on Tuesday, ahead of this weekend's regional tournaments around the state.

Westlake is the area's lone Class 6A school still playing while Class 5A schools continued their strong postseason runs. District champions Glenn and Hendrickson both advanced while Liberty Hill and Cedar Park, the second- and third-place teams from District 25-5A, play each other Tuesday.

Johnson City advanced in Class 2A, as did Thrall, while Burnet advanced in Class 4A to face defending state champion Waco La Vega on Tuesday.

Class 6A: it's down to Westlake

Chaps advance: Gianna Angiolet scored 20 points with three assists and three steals as Westlake cruised past San Antonio Brandeis 54-39. Kennedy Cannon added 12 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists and Bella Hesse finished with 11 points. Sophomore forward Tamia King had 11 rebounds.

25-6A flames out: All three District 25-6A teams were eliminated — Vista Ridge lost to San Antonio Churchill 48-43, Vandegrift fell 61-40 to Cibolo Steele and Cedar Ridge lost to San Antonio Clark 65-52. Saania Khawaja had 13 points and seven rebounds in Vandegrift's loss while Maddy Bowman added 11 points and seven rebounds and Emma Winans had 10 rebounds.

Class 5A: four area teams advance

Glenn tops Alamo Heights: Glenn won 61-24 as Soma Okolo scored 26 points and both Mariah Houston and Cindy Foka had 12.

Liberty Hill advances: Evie Bruce scored 16 points while Reagan Robbins added 12 and Gabby Mundy scored 11 in the Panthers' 62-53 win over San Antonio McCollum.

Cedar Park moves on: Cedar Park beat San Antonio MacArthur 43-38 as Hope Edwards scored 15 points, Isabel Peters added 10 and Kennedy Carlyle finished with seven.

Hendrickson wins: Niyah Waters scored 17 points and A'Maya Edwards added 16 as Hendrickson beat Killeen Ellison 46-33. It's the Hawks' seventh straight regional quarterfinals appearance.

Georgetown, McCallum fall: McCallum lost its second-round game to Lake Belton 66-52 despite 30 points from point guard Emy Chen and Sam Cowles' eight points and eight rebounds. It was the Knights' best season in 25 years. Meanwhile, Killeen Chaparral edged Georgetown 45-36 and Lake Creek beat Pflugerville 45-22.

Around the Austin area

In Class 2A, Chloe Clark scored 13 points while both Brooke Hobbs and Carly Norton added 10 each as Johnson City had a wild win over Skidmore-Tynan 45-42. Thrall beat West Hardin 47-43. Burnet beat Houston Wheatley 62-28. ... La Grange fell to Waco La Vega — the No. 1 team in the state — 79-16; Taylor beat Houston Worthing in bi-district 78-27 as Madyson Mitchell scored 31 points, seven rebounds, five assists and six steals. but the Ducks lost to Waco Connally in the area round, 55-47.

Class 5A

Glenn vs. San Antonio Wagner (San Marcos), 6 p.m.

Hendrickson vs. Lake Belton (Lampasas), 6 p.m.

Class 4A

Burnet vs. Waco La Vega (Killeen), 7 p.m.

Class 2A

Thrall vs. Shiner at LaGrange, 7 p.m.

Johnson City vs. Goldthwaite (Lampasas), 8 p.m.

Round Rock Christian at Tomball Christian, 6:30 p.m.
