The Western Reserve Community Band will perform its 25th annual spring concert: "Concert Band Exclusives" on Saturday, April 20 starting at 7 p.m.at Hudson Middle School, 77 N Oviatt St.

The band will explore the repertoire of music composed exclusively for concert bands, featuring compositions from some of the most acclaimed composers in the genre. A concert band, also known as a wind ensemble or symphonic band, is a large group of musicians consisting primarily of woodwind, brass, and percussion instruments. It differs from the symphony orchestra by its exclusion of stringed instruments, except for the double bass or bass guitar in certain compositions.

Audience members will be treated to the works of James Hosay (Black Granite), Ralph Vaughn Williams (English Folk Song Suite), Julie Giroux (One Life Beautiful), Samuel Hazo (Sòlas Ané), Alfred Reed (A Festival Prelude), Joseph Jenkins (American Overture for Band), William Schuman (Chester Overture), and Clifton Williams (The Sinfonians), showcasing a variety of pieces.

This program will be led by three conductors: Founding director, Ralph Meyer (clarinet); retired director of Hudson High School Bands, Beverly O’Connor (French horn); and guest conductor and talented composer, John Pasternak.

Admission is free.

Western Reserve Community Band is a volunteer ensemble comprised of approximately 80 musicians from the Summit County area. Weekly rehearsals are at the Hudson Middle School Band Room on Thursdays from 7 to 8:30 p.m. In addition to the annual Spring Concert, the band performs throughout Hudson and Summit County all year round.
