West Lafayette investigation of stabbing leads to arrest on suspicion of gun charges

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — West Lafayette police arrived at 320 Brown St. about 3:15 a.m. Thursday to find William Cobb suffering from a stab wound to his forearm, according to West Lafayette police.

Initially, police suspected Cobb's wife, Roshonda Latevia Cobb, stabbed him, but by 9:30 a.m. Thursday, police said that Roshonda is not the suspect in the stabbing.

William Cobb, 30, stopped cooperating in the investigation, so police are uncertain Thursday morning who stabbed William.

William Cobb was treated and released at an area hospital, police said.

As part of their investigation, police obtained search warrants for the couple's apartment, police said.

When searching, police found a handgun with its serial number filed off, according to police, who then arrested both William and Roshonda.

Police jailed Roshonda Cobb on suspicion of unlawful possession of a firearm and altering a firearm's identification marks, according to jail booking information.

Police jailed William Cobb on charges of obliterating identification marks on a handgun and unlawful possession of a firearm by a dangerous person.

Both remained jailed Thursday morning in lieu of bond.
