WNC high school girls soccer power rankings, including a climb back into Top 10

There are just two weeks left in the North Carolina high school girls soccer regular season.

With the state playoffs quickly approaching, here are the Week 10 WNC high school girls soccer power rankings.

1. West Henderson (16-0)

West Henderson has four games remaining in its bid to achieve an undefeated regular season. The only major threat to its perfection is No. 2 Asheville High. The Falcons host the Cougars on Friday.

Last week: No. 1. This week: at Pisgah (Monday), vs. Asheville High (Friday)

2. Asheville High (11-2-2)

Asheville High continues to cruise through Mountain Athletic Conference play. It has allowed only two goals in eight conference games, thanks to strong goalkeeping from Ellie Wiegand-Reavis. She will be put to the test against No. 1 West Henderson and No. 4 Roberson this week.

Last week: No. 3. This week: at No. 4 Roberson (Monday), at McDowell (Wednesday), at No. 1 West Henderson (Friday)

3. Hendersonville (12-2)

Hendersonville has won 12 consecutive games after dropping its first two games to No. 1 West Henderson and No. 6 Reynolds. Thanks to senior Aubrie Retzbach and senior Maggie Bish, it has averaged almost five goals per game.

Last week: No. 2. This week: vs. No. 5 Brevard (Wednesday)

4. Roberson (10-5)

Roberson's stifling nonconference schedule continues to pay off during Mountain Athletic Conference play. It has allowed only two goals against MAC opponents while scoring an average of almost six. The Rams can avenge a loss to rival Asheville High this week.

Last week: No. 4. This week: vs. No. 2 Asheville High (Monday), at Erwin (Wednesday)

5. Brevard (16-1-1)

Brevard has responded well since a 0-0 draw against East Rutherford on April 16. The Blue Devils have scored 10 goals and allowed none during a four-game win streak. Junior goalkeeper Abby Huter has made 21 saves during the win streak.

Last week: No. 6. This week: vs. Patton (Tuesday), at Hendersonville (Wednesday)

6. Reynolds (14-4)

Reynolds drops a spot after falling to score in a 3-0 loss to No. 2 Asheville High last week. Freshmen Julianna Gonzalez and Christina Diavatis will try to get the offense humming again this week.

Last week: No. 5. This week: vs. Erwin (Monday), vs. No. 10 Asheville Christian Academy (Thursday)

7. Madison (12-0-1)

Madison remained unbeaten despite a scare from Western Highlands conference rival Draughn, which took the game to overtime. Senior Amber Hernandez had a goal and an assist in the 3-2 win.

Last week: No. 7. This week: vs. Avery County (Monday), vs. Mountain Heritage (Wednesday), at North Buncombe (Thursday)

8. Polk County (8-4-3)

The Wolverines have gone 8-3 since opening the season with three draws and a loss. All of their losses have come to top competition in No. 3 Hendersonville, No. 5 Brevard and No. 6 Reynolds. Polk County should extend its winning streak to four games before closing the season vs. the Blue Devils.

Last week: No. 9. This week: at Chase (Tuesday), vs. East Rutherford (Thursday), vs. Highlands (Thursday)

9. Swain County (10-4)

Swain County drops a spot after falling to Highlands 5-1 last week. But the Maroon Devils bounced back nicely with a 3-1 win vs. Cherokee. They need to win out to have a chance of at least a share of the Smoky Mountain Conference title.

Last week: No. 8. This week: at Tri-County (Monday), at Murphy (Thursday)

10. Asheville Christian Academy (7-4-1)

Asheville Christian Academy rejoins the top 10 after winning three straight, including a victory over Rabun Gap-Nacoochee in penalty kicks. The Lions are led by Holly Lanter, who has scored 17 of the team's 35 goals.

Last week: Unranked. This week: at Asheville School (Tuesday), at No. 6 Reynolds (Thursday)
