Wendy Williams reveals her N.J. teacher mother, Shirley Skinner Williams, died ‘many weeks ago’
Wendy Williams revealed on her talk show Monday that her beloved mom, Shirley Skinner Williams, died “many weeks ago.”
Williams said the former New Jersey teacher, 85, died “peacefully, surrounded by love.”
“Gone is the best mother, the best girlfriend that a girl could ever have, and I feel fortunate that I had her in my life all of my 56 years,” Williams said, holding back tears.
She said her mom’s actual passing happened “many, many, many, many weeks ago,” but “she’ll always be here. She’s squawking at me right now.”
The daytime talk show host did give a cause of death.
“She didn’t suffer. Not one bit. Thank goodness,” Williams said.
“My mom and I, our relationship became closer and closer once I went away to college, you know,” she explained, sitting on the set of her New York-based show.
“Our relationship was like that of two teenage girls,” she said. “My relationship with my mother, right up till the end, was so girly and so ridiculously giggly.”
Shirley appeared on “The Wendy Williams Show” multiple times, making clear she was her daughter’s biggest fan.
She said her meal times revolved around the show and that she tuned in with multiple TV sets spread around her home so she wouldn’t miss anything if she had to get up and do something.
“Whenever there’s a show on, our friends know not to call us,” Shirley said on the air during one appearance.
“I know exactly when the commercials are coming on. I put the salmon in the oven (and) know it has to broil for seven minutes, and then I come back,” she said.
