'Welcome home': LeBron James makes surprise visit to I Promise School students Tuesday

LeBron James made a surprise visit to House Three Thirty to speak to I Promise School students Tuesday.

The NBA star spoke to the students in House Three Thirty's cabaret. The LeBron James Family Foundation posted a clip of his presentation on X (formerly Twitter) Tuesday.

The video shows James walking on stage to the sound of thunderous applause.

"You guys give me so much inspiration on a day-to-day basis. No matter if I'm here in Akron, no matter if I'm traveling the world, no matter if I'm in Los Angeles, I think about you guys every single day," James told the crowd of students. "... Everywhere I go in the world, I'm always representing you guys."

The I Promise School is operated by Akron Public Schools and is supported by funds from the Lebron James Family Foundation. It opened in 2018 and serves more than 300 students in grades three through eight.

When the building's main occupant was former event center Tangier, famous performers graced that same stage. The LeBron James Family Foundation bought the building in 2020 and opened the retail, dining and event space in March 2023.

The evening prior, James attended the Game 4 clash between the Cavaliers and Boston Celtics at Rocket Mortgage FieldHouse in Cleveland. During the game, the basketball star sat with his wife, Savannah, and his agent, Rich Paul.
