In this year’s concert, Takasawa features works by composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries with three of Sergei Prokofiev’s. “Romeo and Juliet” Ten Pieces for Piano and Maurice Ravel’s Pavane pour une infante défunte. The program also includes works by François Couperin and César Franck.

The Jamestown Community Piano Association is a non-profit organization whose purpose is to maintain the piano for use by the community and to present concerts that feature the piano. The concerts are free. Donations for piano maintenance and performance support are appreciated. For details, call 401-423-0515.

Gravestone cleaning

This may not be for all moms, but for history buffs lend a hand cleaning gravestones at the Daniel Dwelly Lot #39 on Windwood Drive (east side of Stafford Road/Rte. 81) on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. No experience or supplies needed, but work gloves might help (on the job training provided). Parking is available on Windwood Drive.

The Daniel Dwelly Lot is a fairly large lot (50' by 100'), and contains several older fieldstone grave markers, a majority of marble (1800s) headstones and footstones, and one 1940's granite double gravestone. Once their gravestones are cleaned and reset and/or repaired, as the case may be, American flags will be placed in time for Memorial Day.

This cemetery has 16 gravestones to clean, at least three to be straightened, and another half dozen to be reset. This is why the Tiverton Historical Cemeteries Commission is asking for help from anyone willing to spend some time working on either or both of these Saturdays. The five retired members of the Commission cannot do it alone - they need your help!
