New weekend farmers market will open in Sacramento with a no-pet policy. Where is it?

Sacramento’s bustling farmer market scene will gain another hub for fresh produce picking, promising its customers year-round availability — rain or shine.

Meadowview Certified Farmers’ Market will hold its soft opening in June at the Meadowview Light Rail Station at 3501 Meadowview Road, according to its organizers.

The “community-oriented” destination will be run by Sacramento-based Alchemist CDC, which oversees two, year-round markets in Woodbine and Rancho Corvoda.

Alchemist CDC also provides food assistance access to a handful of markets in the area, including downtown Sacramento, Arden Arcade and North Natomas.

In March, Certified Farmers Markets of Sacramento County transferred the operation efforts of its Florin Certified Farmers’ Market to Alchemist CDC. The market was forced to vacate its location behind a former Sears store, eventually moving to Florin Light Rail Station at 3001 Florin Road.

As of Wednesday morning, Alchemist CDC representatives were not available to comment.

When will the market open?

The Meadowview Certified Farmers’ Market will hold its soft opening from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Sunday, June 2, at the Meadowview Light Rail Station at 3501 Meadowview Road.

A grand opening is scheduled one week later.

The market will run year round — rain or shine — except on Christmas Day and during inclement weather.

Food assistance services, including EBT and CalFresh, are available.

Are pets allowed?

No.

“We love dogs and all animals, but California law does not allow them to join you at the farmers’ market unless they are service animals,” Alchemist CDC wrote on its site.

California Health and Safety Code 114259.5 states dogs must be kept at least 20 feet from food facilities and certified farmers’ markets.
