Wednesday: Which Two Actors Won’t Return for Season 2?
A few slots just opened up at Nevermore Academy.
Percy Hynes White and Naomi J. Ogawa, both of whom were series regulars in Wednesday Season 1, will not be back for the Netflix series’ second season.
The actors’ names were missing from the list of returning and guest cast members that the streamer released Tuesday. In addition, Jamie McShane will appear in Season 2, but has been moved from series regular to guest star for the coming episodes.
In related news, Luyanda Unati Lewis-Nyawo, who portrays Galpin’s deputy Ritchie Santiago, has been promoted to series regular for Season 2.
Hynes White played Xavier Thorpe, a Nevermore student who had some romantic entanglement with the title character, played by Jenna Ortega. Ogawa played another of Wednesday’s classmates, Yoko Tanaka. And McShane plays Sheriff Donovan Galpin, father to Hunter Doohan’s Tyler.
In June 2023, Ortega said Season 2 would lean into the show’s horror roots and get rid of her character’s romantic plot. “We’re ditching any romantic love interest for Wednesday, which is really great,” the actress noted.
Also in 2023, Hynes White released a statement on Instagram, responding to (since-deleted) social media posts that alleged he was a perpetrator of sexual assault.

“Earlier this year, somebody I’ve never met started a campaign of misinformation about me online. Because of this, my family has been doxxed, and my friends have received death threats,” he wrote in an Instagram story post. “Underage photos of me were used, and examples of me acting in character were presented as hateful. My friend Jane was falsely portrayed as a victim, and her attempts to set the record straight have been ignored. She gave me permission to include her in this message.”
He added: “The rumors are false. I can’t accept the portrayal of me as someone bigoted, or criminally negligent of people’s safety. These are the kind of baseless, harmful claims that can create mistrust toward victims. It’s very distressing to know that this misinformation has upset people. I’m really thankful for everyone who’s stood by me and helped share the facts. Harassment of my family, friends and coworkers needs to stop please. Thank you for taking the time to read this.”
