Wednesday is last day to appeal property values

Apr. 30—Today is the deadline for property owners to file an appeal or protest of their Notice of Value.

The notice informs a property owner of the full value and net taxable value of their property for the year. A person's net taxable value on the notice determines what his or her tax bill will be. County treasurer's offices will mail out the tax bills later in the year.

The notices were mailed on April 1 and property owners have 30 days to appeal. Bernalillo County officials didn't say Tuesday how many homes and businesses have already filed appeals.

Protests can be made at Alvarado Square, 415 Silver SW, or at the two Assessor's Office satellite locations, 6001 San Mateo NE and 5600 Coors NW. The satellite offices close at 4:30 p.m. and Alvarado Square closes at 5 p.m.

The Rio Rancho Chamber of Commerce sent a letter out in mid-April that urged all commercial and business property owners to carefully review their notices and consider filing an appeal with Sandoval County after many businesses saw their property values skyrocket.
