Wedding registry site Zola says customer accounts were hacked

Hackily ever after.

Zola confirmed to the Daily News on Monday that the wedding registry site had been the victim of a cybersecurity attack over the weekend, affecting account holders who use the same email and passwords across different sites.

“These hackers likely gained access to those set of exposed credentials on third party sites and used them to try to log in to Zola and take bad actions. Our team jumped into action immediately to ensure that all couples and guests on Zola are protected,” Emily Forrest said in a statement.

Less than 0.1% of all couples on the site — or fewer than 3,000 accounts — were impacted, according to the statement.

“We understand the disruption and stress that this caused some of our couples, but we are happy to report that all attempted fraudulent cash fund transfer attempts were blocked. All cash funds have been restored,” said Forrest, noting that Zola’s Trust & Safety team “out of an abundance of caution” reset the passwords of all account holders. “Actions that were not taken by our account users will be corrected.”

Forrest wanted to assure users that they “can absolutely resume their normal activity on Zola,” even if they haven’t received a response to individual outreach — something the company is working on. Any activity that has yet to be resolved will be fixed on Monday.

Lea Michele in 2019 announced her partnership with Zola, which the company then severed after the “Glee” actress, 35, was accused in 2020 of having committed “traumatic microaggressions” against former co-star Samantha Ware and making her experience on the show “a living hell.”

While Michele said she “never judged others by their background or color of their skin,” she contended, “What matters is I clearly acted in ways which hurt other people.

“Whether it was my privileged position and perspective that caused me to be perceived as insensitive or inappropriate at times or whether it was just my immaturity and me just being unnecessarily difficult, I apologize for my behavior and for any pain which I have caused,” the Bronx-born actress said at the time.
