Webster man injured in boat explosion at Wayne County marina

A fire injured a 65-year-old Webster man at a marina along Sodus Bay in Wayne County Thursday morning.

The incident, initially reported as an explosion, occurred at Oak Park Marina on Catchpole Shore Road in Huron around 9:15 a.m., according to the Wayne County Sheriff's Office. The Webster man, whose name was not released, was cleaning the cabin of his boat when it burst into flames. He was able to exit the boat, but suffered severe injuries, according to the sheriff's office.

The man was flown to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. His medical status was not released.

Four boats at the marina were damaged in the fire, deputies said. Firefighters from six companies battled the blaze
