Weather alert: Dense fog advisory issued for South Florida. When will it lift?

The National Weather Service issued a dense fog advisory Monday morning for much of South Florida.

Fog has even rolled into coastal areas, including downtown Miami.

“The fog has really become very dense and dangerous,” said Lissette Gonzalez, meteorologist for Miami Herald news partner CBS Miami.

Gonzalez said the advisory is in effect until 9 a.m. Monday.

Visibility has dropped to as low as a quarter of a mile in some places in Miami-Dade. Broward is not as foggy, showing visibility of a couple of miles.

Airports in Miami and Broward haven’t reported any fog-related delays.

Dense fog is stretching across parts of South Florida early Monday and forecasters are asking drivers to be extra careful out on the road.

The fog is affecting areas from South Miami-Dade to North Broward, according to the weather service advisory. Areas affected include Pompano Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Hollywood, Aventura, Miami Beach, Miami Shores, downtown Miami, Cutler Bay and Homestead.

If you’re heading out on the road in Monday morning rush hour, leave extra time, keep your distance and keep on your low-beam headlights even after sunrise.
