Watchdog proposes expanding remit to include Jersey General Hospital

The Jersey Care Commission (JCC) is asking for public views on a proposal to expand its remit to include Jersey General Hospital.

The watchdog said it was seeking to expand its responsibilities in 2025 to include the regulation of the hospital, ambulance and mental health services.

It said it had worked with the Care Quality Commission to prepare a draft core set of standards - known as the single assessment framework.

A consultation will run until 31 May.

JCC said the draft had been developed to ensure its standards were fit for purpose for a "Jersey specific environment" and were in line with "UK best practices".

It follows a Government of Jersey consultation on draft amendments to the Regulation of Care (Jersey) Law 2014.

JCC said the law aimed to standardise and support a "safe and regulated" care sector on the island.
