How to Watch Top Gun: Maverick

The sequel to Top Gun hit theaters in May 2022, over 35 years since the original film debuted. After it premiered, Top Gun: Maverick went on to be the second-highest grossing film of Tom Cruise's career, and at the 2023 Oscars, Top Gun: Maverick earned six nominations, including one for Best Picture.
"It’s a film about competition and friendship and sacrifice. It was never a film about war," director Joseph Kosinksi shared. "We wanted to give people insight into a world and to experience what it’s like to ride in one of these machines. But the desire was to tell an emotive story about a guy in his 50s. The push was: what’s the audience feeling about that? We were pretty ruthless in making sure that we were always pushing that story, even in an action scene."
Kosinksi also said that he thinks Cruise's character Maverick is "the closest to [Cruise's] real personality. He’s always pushing the envelope. The young actors were so curious to just pick his brain. Here’s a guy who has the career that they all dream about and he’s willing to talk about how he got there."
The film was a hit worldwide—including among the British royal family. Not only did Cruise reportedly host a private screening for the royals, Prince William and Kate Middleton looked glamorous at the London premiere of Top Gun: Maverick.
You don't need to be a royal, however, to watch the movie—because as of 2023, Top Gun is available to stream.
