How to watch Texas Tech baseball vs. Tennessee in Shriners Children's College Showdown

The Texas Tech baseball team opens the season this weekend at the Shriners Children's College Showdown in Arlington. The 22nd-ranked Red Raiders take on No. 8 Tennessee at 7 p.m. Friday.

The game is part of a three-day, six-team event also featuring Baylor, Oklahoma, Nebraska and Oregon. Tech plays Nebraska at 3 p.m. Saturday and Oregon at 2:30 p.m. Sunday.

The scheduled starting pitchers are two 6-foot-6 righthanders: Tech junior Kyle Robinson, who was 1-1 with a 5.36 earned-run average last year, against Tennessee sophomore A.J. Russell, who was 2-0 with a 0.89 ERA. Russell pitched out of the bullpen and allowed nine hits in 30 1/3 innings while striking out 47.

Tech is coming off a 41-23 season in 2023, ending with two losses to Florida in the championship round of the NCAA Gainesville Regional. Tennessee went 44-22 last year, ending with a 1-2 showing in the College World Series.

The Volunteers have won at least 40 games in each of the past four full seasons, not counting the Covid-shortened 2020 campaign. They were 57-9 in 2022 and 50-18 in 2021.
