The Gamecocks look to even their record after falling 31-17 to UNC in Charlotte in Week 1.

Injury report, top storylines for the game

  • South Carolina injuries: OUT: linebacker Mo Kaba (knee), offensive lineman Cason Henry (undisclosed), safety Nick Emmanwori (hamstring), defensive back David Spaulding (undisclosed), edge rusher Jatius Geer (undisclosed). ... PROBABLE: receiver Ahmarean Brown (ribs), linebacker Bam Martin-Scott (ankle).

  • “Get right game” for the Gamecocks: While starting 1-0 would have been ideal, this Furman game could provide South Carolina with just the confidence boost it needs ahead of a tough slate of games. In the next three weeks, USC will face two top-10 SEC opponents (No. 1 Georgia, No. 9 Tennessee) on the road.

  • Can Spencer Rattler have another spotless game?: Despite the fact he was sacked nine times in Charlotte, Spencer Rattler played great. He completed 30 of 39 passes for an SEC-opening-weekend-high of 353 yards against UNC.

  • Will the offensive line bounce back?: South Carolina’s offensive line struggled against UNC. Nick Gargiulo and Vershon Lee told reporters Tuesday that they’re looking to work more cohesively as a unit, play more technically sound and protect the quarterback moving forward. Furman will be their first chance to do so.

  • What else can we learn about this year’s squad?: There’s only so much we can glean from one game. While there was much to take away from Week 1, the loss doesn’t provide a complete picture of this year’s team. The Furman game will add to the Gamecocks’ resume and give us a better idea of what they’re working with in 2023.

  • New entrance for Cocky: South Carolina will debut a new pregame reveal for its mascot as part of a new look to the “2001” entrance. Exactly what all this will entail has been kept under wraps.
