How to watch or stream Duke football game vs. Northwestern on Saturday

As Duke football rode the ups and downs of success and failure over the past six seasons or so, the Blue Devils series with Northwestern has remained a constant.

Duke went to bowl games in 2017 and 2018 with Daniel Jones at quarterback. The Blue Devils suffered a winless ACC season in 2021, part of a streak of three consecutive losing seasons that capped David Cutcliffe’s tenure as head coach. They returned to a bowl game last year in Mike Elko’s first season as head coach.

In each of those seasons, the Blue Devils played, and beat, Northwestern.

Now, having been ranked The Associated Press Top 25 poll in consecutive weeks for the first time since 2015, No. 21 Duke is ready to face the Wildcats again.

A year ago, Duke’s 31-23 win at Northwestern on Sept. 10 gave an early glimpse at the surprisingly successful season Elko was in the midst of putting together.

That game started an 11-game losing streak Northwestern carried into the offseason. Things got messier in July when the school fired head coach Pat Fitzgerald after several former players filed lawsuits with claims of widespread hazing in the program.

The Wildcats’ losing streak reached 12 when they lost 24-7 at Rutgers on Sept. 3. But as a home underdog, Northwestern responded with a 35-7 win over Texas-El Paso last Saturday.

“Obviously, a team that’s got a tremendous amount of pride,” Elko said. “They’ve had some challenging things happen over there this summer, but, you know, I’m sure they have rallied and regrouped and certainly finished the game against UTEP the way they wanted to. I think they’re starting to hit their stride now.”

Duke’s job is to knock the Wildcats off their stride and collect a fifth consecutive win in the series that has the teams playing their seventh game in the past nine seasons this weekend. They are scheduled to play again next season at Northwestern.
