Series history: Tennessee leads the all-time series 28-11-2, including an 18-3 advantage in Knoxville. USC and UT have played every year since South Carolina joined the SEC in 1992. The Volunteers lead the conference series as well, 21-10, though the Gamecocks have won eight of the last 15 meetings and four of the last seven.

Injury report, top storylines for the game

  • Injury report: OUT — wide receiver Antwane “Juice” Wells (foot), running back Bradley Dunn (ankle) and offensive lineman Cason Henry (lower body). OUT FOR SEASON — offensive linemen Ni Mansell (undisclosed), Markee Anderson (knee) and Ryan Brubaker (knee). PROBABLE: wide receiver Ahmarean Brown (hamstring), defensive backs David Spaulding (undisclosed) and O’Donnell Fortune (knee). QUESTIONABLE: Offensive lineman Jakai Moore (shoulder).

  • UT’s disruptive defense: The Volunteers defense ranks third in the nation in two key stats this season: tackles for loss (9.8 per game) and sacks (4 per game). South Carolina offensive coordinator Dowell Loggains said this week that UT’s defensive line is as talented as any the Gamecocks have played this season. He identified the fight USC’s offensive line faces against Tennessee’s front as one of the key storylines of the game.

  • Joe Milton is a “lethal” dual threat: South Carolina defensive coordinator Clayton White shared his thoughts on the Volunteers’ starting signal caller: “As far as arm strength, I don’t think I’ve seen anybody who could throw the ball on tape farther than him. So that’s a challenge. For one, he’s big, he can run. He got an 81-yard run last week against UTSA. ... That combination right there is lethal.”

  • Can USC bookend 31 years of this divisional rivalry with upset wins?: The Gamecocks in 1992 started their debut season in the SEC 0-5, but rebounded to win five of their last six games. The most prolific of those wins was a 24-23 upset of the ranked Volunteers, effectively dashing their SEC East title hopes. Can South Carolina also take the final divisional game versus UT this weekend before Texas and Oklahoma join the conference?
