It is important to note that Sound of Freedom has been accused of embellishing the reality of child exploitation and even stoking QAnon conspiracy theories — Caviezel and costar Tim Ballard are both open supporters of the QAnon movement. But director Alejandro Monteverde has waved off such characterizations, saying, “It’s a fact that this film is not based on the QAnon conspiracy.” And regarding Caviezel’s personal stances, Monteverde said, “I hire people to work on my movie. What they do after is their choice. Do I agree with everything that people do after? Absolutely not.”

Additionally, Ballard, whose work with Operation Underground Railroad inspired the film, resigned from the organization in June, O.U.R. said in a statement. That move came amid sexual abuse and harassment allegations from several women, that Ballard refuted as being “categorically false.”
