Oprah released The State of Weight, a “Life You Want” Class and corresponding curriculum, here on Oprah Daily in fall 2023. In the months since, there have been countless cultural conversations about the subjects we covered—obesity as a medical disease (not a failure of willpower), the rise of weight-loss drugs like Ozempic, and how body image affects our emotions.

The conversations are far from over. This week, Oprah opened up another discussion about weight, in collaboration with WeightWatchers, to speak more about the shame, science, and societal aspects. In the virtual event, she was joined by a group that has a wealth of knowledge and experience in this area, including Rebel Wilson and Busy Philipps, along with entrepreneurs Katie Sturino, the founder of Megababe, and Jamie Kern Lima, the founder of IT Cosmetics. The panel also included experts like Rachel Goldman, PhD (a psychologist we tapped for our State of Weight discussion), and Ania Jastreboff, MD, PhD, the director of the Yale Obesity Research Center.

Oprah said the special “unpacks everything we’ve internalized about diet culture and how our weight somehow reflects our worth” as well as “dismantles the body standards that have caused so much shame to find the best way forward for each of us.”
