Professional swimmer Cody Miller has plenty of accolades to his name, including competing at an Olympic level and breaking the world record in the men's 4x50 freestyle relay. In a new video on his YouTube channel, Miller takes on a different kind of challenge that he's never attempted before: a 5K swimming race, longer than anything he usually trains for.

And to make it even more of a challenge, this isn't in a pool, but the ocean, making it Miller's first official open water race. He's joined for the 5K by retired swimmer Blake Pieroni, and Miller's former Olympic teammate Ryan Lochte also pops up on the same beach in Florida, although he's only there to swim a mile.

"There's a half-mile for the youngsters, like for the really little kids," Miller explains. "Then there's a full mile for the people that just want to cruise, swim a nice easy little 20 minute race, and then there's also a 5K. I will be racing the 5K, along with Blake P, who hasn't really been in the water much lately, so we're going to see how it goes."

He adds that the day before the race, he and Pieroni did a 2000-meter warmup swim to test themselves out in the open sea. "The water was hot," he says, "and the waves are looking a little choppy this morning... It's going to be fine. Totally not going to get beat by a bunch of 15-year-olds. Just got to check my pride."

Pieroni ends up coming in sixth, while Miller proudly claims fourth place. "I missed the podium," he says, "but hey, I still got medals, baby!"
