Watch: Officers respond to reports of kangaroo hopping on street in Texas

A loose kangaroo made quite the jump in local news on Sunday in Lufkin.

The Lufkin Police Department responded to a call with reports of a loose kangaroo hopping down Fuller Springs Drive on Sunday morning.

In a video posted on Facebook, the caller stated that he and his wife were headed to breakfast when they saw what they believed was a loose dog on the street.

"(But) then I looked, and I'm like, 'that's a freaking kangaroo,' just hopping, coming down the road," the caller can be heard saying in the police call.

According to the officer's notes, Kangaroo Jack's owners accidentally left the gate open, but the officers managed to safely return the exotic marsupial to his home without any harm.

"Kangaroo Jack was spotted leaving his residence today along Fuller Springs, taking residents by surprise since the star has been living his life behind the scenes ever since his movie premiered years ago," the notes jokingly stated.

Lufkin PD has also added a kangaroo to its logo on social media.

Does the Kangaroo Jack star actually live in Texas?

Any reference to the 2003 movie of the same name was satire; Kangaroo Jack does not actually live in Texas.

Frankly, that's because there wasn't actually a real kangaroo starring in "Kangaroo Jack." The kangaroo in the family-friend movie was created using computer-generated imagery, also known as CGI.

Is it legal to own a kangaroo in Texas?

According to Texas Monthly, Texas is one of only 13 states in the country where it's legal to own a kangaroo as an exotic pet.

In fact, it's seemingly more common than most would think based on all the recent headlines on loose kangaroos, including a recent escape in Texarkana earlier this year, as well as stray kangaroos in Prosper, Granbury, Mercedes, San Marcos and Lumberton over the last few years.

In Grayson County, Roos2U is a ranch that's home to several Australian species.
