2022 has already delivered an incredible array of new horror movies, and now, there’s one more highly anticipated flick to add to the lineup. Madelaine Petsch and Chloë Bailey star opposite one another in the psychological thriller Jane, which is set to hit select theaters in late August. The Riverdale actress also serves as a producer on the film, which explores the debilitating effects of social media on mental health through the lens of her character Olivia, a high-achieving high school senior.

“Seemingly perfect high school senior, Olivia, struggles with grief from the recent loss of a friend. When she gets deferred from her dream college she begins to spiral and experiences a series of increasingly frightening panic attacks. In an attempt to regain some sense of control, she embarks on a social media-fueled rampage against those that stand in the way of her success but, as things escalate, she is forced to confront — and ultimately embrace — her darkest impulses in order to get ahead,” the film’s official description reads.

Does Jane have a release date?

Yes, the thriller arrives in select AMC theaters on August 26, according to the film’s studio, Creator+. Starting September 16, Jane will also be available to stream on Creator+.

Is there a trailer?

Creator+ and Madelaine both dropped the trailer for Jane on August 4, and it’s our first glimpse into the film’s chilling storyline.

“ahhhh !! i am so excited to share with you the trailer for my film Jane(!!!!) this has been my baby for 2 years & it means the world to share it with you!! (in select amc theaters aug 26 💌),” Madelaine wrote on Instagram.

In the first few seconds, we see Madelaine’s character, Olivia, express her unwavering ambition to get into her dream school, Stanford University. But then she and her best friend Izzy (Chloë Bailey) notice strange activity coming from the social media account of their friend Jane, who passed away months ago. The minute-and-a-half clip continues to document Olivia’s worsening anxiety, as she struggles with Jane’s death and tries to regain a sense of control.

Who else stars in Jane?

As mentioned, Madelaine Petsch stars as Olivia, and Grammy-nominated artist Chloë Bailey stars as her best friend, Izzy. The cast also includes Academy Award-winning actress Melissa Leo as Principal Rhodes, Chloe Yu as Jane, and Ian Owens as Mr. Richardson.
