Loki season 2 is part of a special initiative at next month's BFI London Film Festival, with lucky fans able to watch the first couple of episodes for free.

Once again headlined by Tom Hiddleston as the eponymous Marvel trickster, this one arrives hot on the heels of the Disney+ miniseries Secret Invasion, which saw Nick Fury contending with a major Skrull conspiracy.

Ahead of LFF, it's been announced that on Thursday, October 5 – the same day as its Disney+ release – Loki director Dan DeLeeuw and executive producer Kevin R Wright will introduce preview screenings of the show there, with tickets up for grabs from Monday, September 25 at 10am.

The festival, which brings David Fincher's The Killer and Yorgos Lanthimos' Poor Things to UK shores for the very first time, is running more than 50 free events between October 4 and 15, including Chicken Run-inspired model making.

Kristy Matheson, BFI London Film Festival director, said in a statement: "We can't wait to invite film fans across London to dive into these fantastic events that explore so many facets of moving image culture and allow audiences to meet the makers and even make their own robot!

"Our LFF Free programme has events for all ages from family workshops, screenings, club nights and fascinating talks – so mark your calendars and make some time to pop by and celebrate LFF with us."

As for the second season of Loki, returning actor Owen Wilson has teased a "deeper" arc for his character Agent Mobius this time around.

"I thought I would have a good time [on season 1] but I really enjoyed it. I've been lucky working on a million movies and always having a good time but on that one, I had a really great time and that continued on season 2," he told ComicBook.com.

"Maybe even more-so because we were filming in London and being there at Pinewood but yeah, [his story] just goes deeper."

Loki season 1 is streaming on Disney+. Season 2 will premiere on October 5.
