Watch live: House Jan. 6 committee holds primetime hearing targeting Trump’s inaction

The House committee investigating the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol will hold a much-anticipated primetime hearing Thursday night, an event that is expected to focus on former President Donald Trump’s inaction during the siege. The hearing, perhaps the panel’s final of the summer, is scheduled to begin at 8 p.m. at the Cannon House Office Building and can be viewed live here.

The probe has already produced a series of stunning accounts and damning disclosures about Trump’s behavior on Jan. 6.

Trump ‘gleefully’ watched Capitol attack unfold on TV: Jan. 6 committee

Last month, Cassidy Hutchinson, a former White House aide, testified that Trump pushed to relax security checks at the rally he held before the deadly attack and later tried to force his security detail to take him to the Capitol.

And last week, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.), one of two Republicans on the House Jan. 6 panel, accused Trump of phoning a witness in the House probe, raising questions about witness tampering.

The hearings have played out as Attorney General Merrick Garland faces growing pressure to prosecute Trump, and as the former commander-in-chief contemplates announcing another run for the Whte House before the fall.

Rep Adam Kinzinger (R-Ill.), a member of the panel, tweeted a teaser for Thursday night’s hearing.

“What was Donald Trump doing while the Capitol was under siege? Take a look,” Kinzinger wrote, attaching a video showing testimony indicating Trump watched the violence on TV during the attack.
