There's no denying it, Lewis Hamilton's 2022 season was a disappointment. Hamilton, who had won in every single season of his career, came away winless in a Mercedes W13 that was a clear step down from the team's other hybrid-era challengers. However, the Formula 1 season is over and Hamilton has a whole offseason to prepare for his next shot at what would be a record eighth F1 driver's championship. In an clip he shared on Instagram earlier this week, he seems to be getting that offseason started in one of the best ways anyone could imagine.

Yes, that's Hamilton going absolutely wild in an R34 Nissan GT-R. The quick clip shows Hamilton putting the car through its paces, aggressively working through the gears in and around a city before stopping for some donuts. It's a rare look at a modern F1 pilot driving only for fun, and an even rarer look at an F1 driver behind the wheel of a manual transmission car. Hamilton seems to have no issue adjusting back to three pedals, either; at one point, he's driving hard enough that some smoke is escaping the transmission tunnel through gaps in the gear knob.

Hamilton says in the caption that he's making an exception to his general disinterest in road driving. Unsurprisingly, time in an R34 is more than worth the exception. Despite being a Mercedes factory driver, the 103-time race winner was able to share the film of him driving arguably Nissan's most-beloved car ever.
