Acura's outgoing NSX Type S was a big improvement on the brand's first draft of the hybrid supercar, a sharper take on a misunderstood future classic that adds to its original strengths. That makes it a great all-around performance car, and one that is made all the more compelling by parent company's Honda's long-standing reputation for reliability. By contrast, a sport bike like the Kawasaki Ninja H2 R is a simple thing with simple goals: Get power to a wheel in the lightest and most sharp package possible. The two are unlikely rivals that are more likely to be bought together than cross-shopped, but they compare surprisingly closely in a U-shaped drag race.

In a recent test conducted by Edmunds, the bike has the edge by a narrow margin. The simple, symmetrical test consists of a quarter mile drag race, then a tight turn, then another rolling drag race back. That allows both tested vehicles to go head to head at the same time, showcasing their strengths and weaknesses in each individual portion of the test in real time.

The NSX has the advantage immediately off the line and through the corner, but the on the bike's best run, it wins in the sprint to 60, in the quarter mile, and in the final rolling drag race to the finish. That is enough to put it between a Ford Mustang GT500 and a BMW M3 Competition on the company's leaderboard for the test, 7/10ths of a second and three spots ahead of an Acura that slots between a Lucid Air Grand Touring and a C8-generation Corvette.
