Watch Kansas paraeducator use ‘crazy range’ to advance during ‘The Voice’ battle round

"The Voice"

Performing an iconic song from the Queen of Hip-Hop Soul, a singer from Kansas showed off his vocal prowess to advance on “The Voice” on Monday, Oct. 17.

Justin Aaron, a 34-year-old paraeducator from Junction City, Kansas, went up against 18-year-old Destiny Leigh during the battle, trading turns performing Mary J. Blige’s “No More Drama.” As the two equally impressed the coaches, the only drama was who would advance.

John Legend and Blake Shelton both chose Leigh as the winner but praised Aaron and his vocal abilities.

“Justin, you have crazy range,” Legend said. “Those high notes, you were hitting them flawlessly. It was really impressive.”

Shelton referred to Aaron’s performance as “powerful, consistent, everything you want.”

Camila Cabello went with Aaron as her winner, saying the tone of his voice is “just like honey in my ears.”

The decision was ultimately Gwen Stefani’s, as she is the coach for the two singers and had the pivotal vote.

Before deciding on Aaron as the winner, she said his voice is “butter,” calling it “literally so beautiful.”

“I knew that Justin was incredible when I pushed my button,” Stefani later said, referring to his blind audition. “I feel like this season, people are going to see Justin and go, ‘What was that? He is so gifted.’”

Stefani used her only save of the round on Leigh, meaning both singers will move on to the next round.

Aaron said in an Instagram post his experience on “The Voice” has been “so amazing.”

“I thank you Jesus for allowing me to walk in this,” he said. “And thank you family and friends for your love and support and your prayers.”

Aaron is one of two singers from “The Voice” who advanced during the blind auditions. Daysia, a 17-year-old from Leavenworth, has not had her battle round.
