How to watch Kansas City Chiefs’ game vs. New York Jets: TV, kickoff time, odds

Denny Medley/USA TODAY Sports

The NFL had visions of a Patrick Mahomes vs. Aaron Rodgers meeting when it scheduled their 2023 matchup for Sunday Night Football. Rodgers had moved to the Jets from the Packers, and having their first meeting at MetLife Stadium in prime time would be grand theater.

But the Rodgers’ torn Achilles on the first series of the opener ended that story line, and it’s natural to wonder if the quarterbacks who have accounted for the last three MVP awards and a total of six combined will ever meet.

Mahomes’ Chiefs and Rodgers’ Packers have played twice in the previous four years, but Mahomes was out with an injury in 2019 and Rodgers missed the 2021 encounter with an injury.

Add Jets quarterback Zach WIlson to the list of understudies who have started in what could have been a Mahomes-Rodgers meeting. In 2019, Matt Moore started for the Chiefs, and two years later Jordan Love made his first Packers’ start.

When and where is the Chiefs vs. Jets game?

The Chiefs are off to a 2-1 start after Sunday’s blowout win over the Bears. The Jets are 1-2, winning only the season opener against the Bills.

Here is a viewer’s guide to watching the NFL.

What’s the betting line for the Chiefs-Jets game?

The Chiefs opened as a 9-point favorite. The Jets were a preseason-betting darling, a team with a solid defense that had added Rodgers. After all, the Rams and Buccaneers had recently won Super Bowls with relocated quarterbacks Matthew Stafford and Tom Brady. Why not the Jets and Rodgers?

But Rodgers’ injury has tanked Super Bowl odds for the Jets. Likewise, the Chiefs are a big favorite in this game.

When did the Chiefs last play the Jets?

The teams last met in 2020, with the Chiefs winning 35-9. The last time the Chiefs and Jets played at MetLife Stadium was 2017. The Jets won 38-31. The Chiefs hold a 19-18-1 lead in the series, and they’re 1-1 in postseason games.

This will be Mahomes’ first game against either the Jets or Giants in MetLife, and he’ll look to give the Chiefs their first victory at the stadium. Kansas City is 0-2 against the Jets and 0-1 against the Giants there.

What’s the Chiefs’ injury report?

The first injury report will be released Wednesday. After Sunday’s victory over the Chicago Bears, the only player mentioned by Andy Reid was reserve offensive lineman Prince Tega Wanogho, who had experienced a quad injury.

On Monday, Reid said Mahomes, who hobbled after a Bears player rolled up on his right ankle, could have finished the game. Mahomes and other starters were removed late in the third quarter of a blowout victory.
