The Jeep Gladiator is a truck destined for serious off-road shenanigans. But as the driver of this particular Jeep Gladiator 6x6 conversion recently found out, an extra axle is only as useful as the rest of your setup, and your driving skills.

Thanks to TikTok user longislandwiseguy, we have a chance to watch as this modified Jeep Gladiator 6x6 struggles to make its way across an Amagansett beach, in Long Island’s Hamptons community. Despite having six wheels to work with, the Gladiator clearly struggles to find pace on the sand. There's some forward progress shown in the clip, but the crowd would suggest the Jeep wasn’t having as much luck before the camera started rolling.

As pointed out in the TikTok's comment section, this is likely at least partially the result of the Jeep having too much air in its tires. Low tire pressures are vital when taking on sandy conditions, as a deflated tire provides a much larger footprint to work with. By distributing the weight of the vehicle across this larger footprint, traction tends to improve across all axles. While others have also claimed the driver simply wasn’t using their transfer case effectively, the exhaust note coming out of the truck suggests otherwise. Regardless, this isn’t a great look as far as the owner’s off-roading prowess is concerned. It looks like a shovel and some off-road traction mats could've gone a long way too.

If you happen to own a 6x6 of any kind, perhaps consider taking a deep dive into some off-roading best practices. While your mega truck is almost certainly destined to stay on the pavement for most of its life, you’d hate to find yourself on TikTok for the wrong reason in the future.
