One of the things we look forward to come Christmastime? All the new movies premiering in theaters or on streaming sites. Although there are quite a few greatly-anticipated titles debuting right before or on December 25, the musical drama The Color Purple is one you won't want to wait to see.

Based on the 1982 novel of the same name by Pulitzer Prize-winning author Alice Walker, tells "a decades-spanning tale of love and resilience and of one woman's journey to independence." According to IMDb, the main character Celie "faces many hardships in her life, but ultimately finds extraordinary strength and hope in the unbreakable bonds of sisterhood." Featuring a star-studded cast that includes Fantasia Barrino, Taraji P. Henson, H.E.R., Ciara and Halle Bailey, here's everything we know about how and where to watch The Color Purple.

How to watch and stream The Color Purple:

As of now, the Golden Globe-nominated musical will only be available in theaters exclusively on December 25, so make sure to check your local theaters for times. Although there hasn't been any official news about when it will be available to stream, the movie was produced by Warner Bros., which merged with HBO earlier this year to create Max, so there is a very strong possibility it will be available there soon after. As for when? Some Warner Bros. movies have had to wait a minimum number of days before dropping on Max, but it can vary. For example, last year The Batman had to wait a minimum of 45 days before it could become available but on the other hand, Barbie premiered back on July 21 and only just became available December 15 on Max. When the time comes, you can sign up to watch on the site or the app for as little as $9.99 a month or pay a one-time fee of $99 for access to more content.

In the meantime, you can watch the original 1985 version, which stars Whoopi Goldberg, Oprah Winfrey and Danny Glover, on Max.
