What to Watch Friday: Midwest murders are the focus on ‘Dateline’ and ’20/20’
Here’s what’s on TV tonight:
‘Dateline: The Trouble at Dill Creek Farm’ (9 p.m., NBC)
Andrea Canning reports on the murder of Wisconsin pharmacist Ken Juedes, found shot to death while he slept at his Marathon County farmhouse in August 2006. It took investigators 13 years to find his killer. Canning interviews detectives Sean McCarthy and Greg Bean, Marathon County District Attorney Theresa Wetzsteon, Ken’s family members, and others.
20/20 (9 p.m., ABC)
This week’s episode looks at the murder of 90-year-old farmer Earl Olander, found murdered inside his rural Minnesota farmhouse in April 2015, beaten to death with his hands and feet bound by tape. Investigators didn’t have many clues except for shoe prints left at the scene, until Olander’s family bible showed up in another person’s home and police were tipped off. ABC News correspondent John Quiñones reports.
‘Capturing a Killer Nurse’ (Netflix)
This documentary is about Charlie Cullen, a registered nurse who killed hundreds of people in medical facilities in the Northeast, becoming one of history’s most prolific serial killers. Related: “The Good Nurse” is a feature film, also available on Netflix, and dramatizes this story. It stars Eddie Redmayne and Jessica Chastain.
“Is That Black Enough For You?” (Netflix)
Another new documentary landing today is from film historian Elvis Mitchell. It examines “the craft and power of cinema from a perspective often overlooked: the African American contribution to films released from the landmark era of the 70s.” It includes perspectives from Samuel L. Jackson, Whoopi Goldberg, Laurence Fishburne, Zendaya and others.
