Watch the Four-Chair Turn Country Artist Who Makes a Surprising Coach Choice

Jacquie Roar

The four-chair turns keep on coming on Season 24 of The Voice and Tuesday night’s Blind Audition show was no exception with three, but the real standout of the night was 37-year-old country singer and wedding DJ Jacquie Roar from North Plains, Ore.

Jacquie, a self-proclaimed “hopeless romantic,” has had to put her music career on the backburner to raise her 6-year-old daughter Leilani—who’s a fan of Gwen Stefani, especially the song “Rich Girl,” but now she’s finally found Mr. Right in her boyfriend Jesse, who is supportive of her music career.

Jacquie, who headlines the Jacquie Roar band, one of the three country bands in Oregon that she says are doing “really well,” sees the country industry as changing, so she’s hoping her exposure on The Voice will give her career a boost.

“Women are doing more things that they haven't done before,” she says. “There's a lot more bravery. I think that a chair turned for me would be the ultimate reward, especially because my daughter's going to be watching and I want her to be proud of me, I want to be a role model. I want her to know she can do whatever she wants. I would just want her to run out on the stage and hug me because that would be the most for me.”

Jacquie’s song choice for her Blind Audition was Gretchen Wilson's "Here for the Party," and she couldn’t have picked a more perfect song to showcase her voice as she got all four coaches—Gwen, Reba McEntire, Niall Horan and John Legend to turn their chairs for her.

Reba began the pitches for the night, teasing Jacquie about losing her earring at the end of her performance.

“Well, I've heard of dropping the mic but never dropping their earrings,” the queen of country music told her. “That was a great closer there. I love your outfit and I really love your song choice. I'm very familiar with that. Your range is incredible. I love the low parts and the high parts. You did a great job. Welcome to The Voice.

John jumped in to make sure the other three coaches actually had a chance. He said, “Be honest Jacquie, did you already plan to pick Reba if she turned around for you? Is this just a formality that we’re going through?”

To which she responded, “I promised myself I would hear everybody out.”

John then tried to make a connection by pointing out that like Jacquie, who was wearing a white, fringed jacket from Las Vegas, that he, too, had rhinestones on his jacket.

Then Niall began his coaxing to get Jacquie on his team, saying, “That was insane. I wanted to hear some dynamic and the moment that you chose to go down and show us that low end of your rock voice is like listening to Steven Tyler. It was so good to listen to. The song choices that are in the scope for you are endless—anything from Lenny Kravitz to Aerosmith. You're going to be a showstopper on the show. I would love to have you on my team.”

Then Gwen, who didn’t know that little Leilani is a fan and knows the words to her songs, said, “I'm just getting to know Reba and I'm a little intimidated by her greatness, of course, and like the whole country genre, I feel like I'm this weird adopted into the Okie world. The whole thing's weird. We all know this. Anyways, I've lived your dream already in so many ways as a female artist and I would love to work with you. I feel like I'm in this new period of my life where I really learned a lot about country music and fell in love with country music in a way that I never thought I would. I would love for you to be on Team Gwen.”

And last but not least was John, who started with a joke, “I know the obvious choice is to go with Team Legend in this case. I really think you're going to do really well on the show because your voice is so powerful, and you really do have range. You took it up all the way at the end there and the growl and everything, it just showed that you can do so much with that voice. Congratulations. You're here, you’re a four-chair turn, I would love to work with you as the obvious choice. I'm just looking forward to you being part of Team Legend.”

But Reba wasn’t letting that go. She said, “They really had some points there, but as you can see, I've got my award-winning belt buckle here, so you and I are kind of on the same vein of thinking: winning, working together, and win this whole sucker. We can do this, the whole show.”

Before Jacquie decided, she asked if she can have her daughter help her decide and Leilani joined her mother on stage and Jacquie got the hug she had been hoping for.

Then Gwen and Niall try to get Leilani to pick them. Gwen by showing off her “pretty dress,” Niall by twirling and looking cute. But we already knew that Leilani is a fan of Gwen, so her mom let her announce that Gwen was her choice.

And Leilani tells Gwen, “I really like your songs. I always wanted to see you and meet you in real life.”

So cute!
