Netflix has released the first trailer for Maestro, which you can watch above, and confirmed that we'll be seeing Bradley Cooper's new movie this year.

The movie marks Cooper's second as director and co-writer, following 2018's A Star Is Born, and sees him also taking on the lead role of legendary conductor, composer and pianist Leonard Bernstein.

It chronicles the lifelong relationship between Bernstein and his wife Felicia Montealegre Cohn Bernstein, played by Carey Mulligan. Maestro will also cover Bernstein's alleged affairs with men, including with a clarinet player portrayed by Matt Bomer in the movie.

The biopic is sure to feature in this year's awards race now it's been confirmed for a November 24 release in select UK cinemas.

Maestro will then be released on Netflix in time for a Christmas viewing as it lands on Wednesday, December 20.

Josh Singer co-wrote the movie with Cooper, who also produced with Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Fred Berner and Amy Durning. The talent in front of the camera is equally impressive alongside Cooper and Mulligan.

Maestro also stars Maya Hawke as Bernstein's daughter Jamie, Jeremy Strong as biographer John Gruen, Sarah Silverman as Bernstein's sister Shirley and Michael Urie as dancer and choreographer Jerome Robbins.

The cast is rounded out by Josh Hamilton, Scott Ellis, Gideon Glick, Sam Nivola, Alexa Swinton and Miriam Shor.

Last year, Cooper told Variety that it was Spielberg who brought the project to him, knowing that Cooper had a lifelong obsession with conducting.

"He had this biopic idea and was talking to me about potentially acting in it. But I had just been working on A Star Is Born," he recalled.

"And I said, 'Listen, all I want to do is write and direct movies. I always felt like I could play a conductor, but may I research the material and see if I can write it and direct it? Would you let me do that?'"

Spielberg let Cooper do just that, and come November we'll know if it was the right call.

Maestro is released in select UK cinemas on November 24 and will be released on Netflix on December 20.
