Bodybuilders Work Out Like Anime CharactersYouTube

Fitness YouTuber Jesse James West has trained like Navy SEAL David Goggins and been put through the wringer by strength legends like Ronnie Coleman and Thor Bjornsson. But in his latest video, he's taking fitspo from the toughest, fittest guys out there: the heroes of anime.

Joined by fellow swole influencer Lean Beef Patty, West takes on several exercises depicted in the many, many training sequences that you see in anime shows, starting off with Goku's workout from Dragon Ball Z, which includes one-armed pushups and upside down situps.

From there, Patty suggests they try Uncle Iroh's prison workout from Avatar: The Last Airbender, where the chilled out, tea-loving old dude revealed himself to be hench as hell and churned out one-armed pullups, followed by an L-sit rope climb from Baki.

The exercises only get more difficult when Patty and West attempt to master a couple of Roronoa Zoa's moves from One Piece, like the squat press, the barbell swing, the one-armed barbell curl, the upside down barbell foot press, which West requires some assistance to complete, and finally, the barbell squat jump. "Now if you care about your knees at all, definitely do not try this one," says West, although he also describes successfully pulling off the move as "one of the coolest moments of my life."

Next up is the One Punch Man workout, which has become a staple fitness challenge on YouTube. Inspired by the main character Saitama, whose rigorous daily training regimen rendered him capable of felling any enemy with a single punch (and also, for some reason, robbed him of his hair), West and Patty do 100 pushups, 100 situps, and 100 air squats with relative ease—but then fail to complete the 6-mile run.

Keeping the hard-as-hell theme going, West and Patty then take an ice cold plunge where they must both sit in freezing cold water for a full two minutes, before ending their epic anime training session by recreating the sword-fighting from Demon Slayer with some fencing sparring.

"You're going to feel like you're dying," says West, "but that's the point, you need to challenge yourself."
