North Kitsap's boys soccer team enjoyed its best season in program history in 2023, recording 19 wins while placing second at the Class 2A state tournament after a 4-2 defeat against top seed Columbia River at Renton Memorial Stadium.

The Vikings have another opportunity to claim that championship this week with Renton Memorial Stadium hosting the 2A final four. No. 3 North Kitsap (19-1) takes No. 2 Franklin Pierce in the semifinals Friday at noon. No. 1 Sehome plays No. 5 East Valley of Spokane in the other semifinal at 2:15 p.m. The title game Saturday is set for 3 p.m. (the third-place game is scheduled for 11 a.m.).

North Kitsap won its first two state games by shut out: 6-0 against No. 14 West Valley of Spokane in the first round and 2-0 against No. 6 Pullman in the quarterfinals.

Here's a peek at the rest of the state tournament schedule for softball, tennis and track and field:

Five softball teams, three separate locations

It's been a dynamite season for West Sound softball and it'll be a party of five at state, albeit at three different locations.

Defending 2A champion North Kitsap (18-5) will join Olympic (18-5) and Kingston (13-8) at Carlon Park in Selah beginning Friday. The No. 2 seed Vikings, who won a district title over Olympic last weekend, open against No. 15 Rochester at 9 a.m. in the upper half of the bracket. No. 8 Olympic faces No. 9 Othello and No. 16 Kingston faces No. 1 Sedro-Woolley at 11 a.m. The Trojans and Buccaneers would face each other if they both win those games. The 2A competition is double elimination with Saturday's semifinals set for 10 a.m. and the championship scheduled for 3 p.m.

The longest shot of the 3A tournament at the RAC in Lacey is No. 20 Central Kitsap (8-16). The Cougars play a loser-out game Thursday against No. 13 Auburn Mountainview at 3 p.m. If Central Kitsap wins, it will face No. 4 Mount Spokane on Friday at 11 a.m.

Klahowya (17-5) also faces a loser-out game in the first round of the 1A tournament at the Columbia Playfields in Richland. The No. 9 seed Eagles take on No. 9 Royal at 3 p.m. A victory would put Klahowya up against No. 1 Montesano on Friday at 1 p.m.

Tennis teams set to swing in Seattle, Vancouver

West Sound's top tennis players, both boys and girls, will be in action Friday-Saturday at the state championships.

The Nordstrom Tennis Center in Seattle is hosting the 2A tournament where North Kitsap will have plenty of athletes in action, including Indigo Gallagher (boys singles), Teegan DeVries (girls doubles) and Mason Chmielewski/Spencer Gillespie, Grady DeVries/Owen Wilkinson and Mason Repp/Justin Gallant (boys doubles).

Central Kitsap and Bainbridge are headed to the 3A tournament at the Vancouver Tennis Center. Competing for the Cougars will be Kai Junior (boys singles), Landon Frandsen/Nate Lander (boys doubles), and May-lin Zhang/Kianna Dougherty (girls doubles). Bainbridge qualifiers include Izzy Wallin (girls singles), Malia Lemieux and Elle Schuchman (girls doubles), and Aidan McLennan and Charlie Combs (boys doubles).

Bainbridge's Claire Hungerford jumps a hurdle during practice on May 6. She enters the 3A state track meet ranked No. 1 in the 300-meter hurdles, with preliminary rounds on Friday afternoon.
