Washington’s own ‘Voice’ contestants battle to stay on the show, how the locals performed

Monday night’s battle round of “The Voice” eliminated a local contestant, leaving only one Washington resident left in the singing competition.

Season 22 of “The Voice” started with blind auditions, in which both Blake Shelton and Camila Cabello chose Washington residents to be a part of their teams.

Grace Bello, a 21-year-old from Lacey, WA earned praises from multiple coaches and a coveted four-chair turn during blind auditions. Bello chose to be on Cabello’s team for the season, although Gwen Stefani tried to talk Bello onto her team:

“It’s really rare that somebody will show that many sides of their voice or that they even have that many sides to their voice. You were able to get tender with your voice and really listen to the lyrics of what you’re saying, and that’s also rare for someone so young,” Stefani said on the show.

Grace Bello was eliminated from “The Voice” Monday night, after losing a battle-round duet of “Time After Time” against another member of Cabello’s team.

Bello sang against Reina Ley, a 13-year-old from Arizona who is one of the youngest contestants ever on the show and was praised for her “unbelievable” voice:

Bello received some compliments after the battle duet, although Blake Shelton noted that Bello seemed to have lost confidence between the blind auditions and the battle. Stefani also commented, saying she would name Ley as the winner of the battle over Bello.

The contestants’ coach, Cabello, had to choose one winner to continue in the competition, and one to send home. Cabello chose for Bello to be eliminated from the competition.

“This is just a sucky situation because I have two really talented people. I don’t think one was better than the other. If I had a Save, neither of you would be going home...both of you guys had an even performance. I hate this so much. This is the most terrible I’ve felt literally in all of these Battles,” Cabello said.

Before Bello left the stage, she thanked the judges for their feedback and advice: “I’m going to take all of your advice and take it to heart.”

Washington’s other competitor, Jaeden Luke from Bothell, WA also lost his battle last night, but instead of being eliminated, Cabello and Stefani both attempted to steal Luke and place him on their teams.

Although both coaches pleaded for Luke to choose their team, Luke chose to join Cabello and will remain on “The Voice.”

“The Voice” airs on NBC at 8 p.m. on Mondays and Tuesdays.
