Washington gas prices begin to rise again. Here’s what Whatcom County is seeing

Washington state’s gas prices are starting to increase again and prices in Whatcom County have jumped by over 50 cents a gallon in a month.

The average price of a gallon of gas has increased by 16 cents in the last month in the United States and was $3.44 on Wednesday, Feb. 8, according to the American Automobile Association.

Washington state’s average cost of gas per gallon is now $4.12, a 23-cent increase from January’s average of $3.89. Gas averaged $3.95 a gallon in Washington state in February 2022, according to AAA.

Washington state has the third-highest gas prices in the country after Hawaii and California. Hawaii has the highest gas in the country, averaging $4.90 a gallon, according to AAA.

Whatcom gas prices

Whatcom County’s average cost of gas per gallon was one of the lowest in the state in January at $3.62 according to AAA data.

In February, Whatcom county’s average gallon of gas was among the 15 most expensive and costs $4.15, a 53-cent increase.

Asotin County, in the southeast corner of Washington, had the cheapest average gas price per gallon at $3.60 in February. San Juan County currently has the highest average gas price per gallon at $4.73, according to AAA data.

The Bellingham Herald also compared gas prices to Whatcom County’s northern neighbor, Vancouver, B.C., where gas prices average 175.9 Canadian dollars per liter, or $5.57 per gallon, according to the Canadian Automobile Association.
