On Dec. 5, Washington Football Team tight end Logan Thomas went down with what appeared to be a serious knee injury. Some of his initial tests didn’t reveal a torn ACL, but the latest update on the talented pass catcher is quite brutal.

According to ESPN insider Adam Schefter, the latest round of tests showed that Thomas did in fact suffer a torn ACL against the Las Vegas Raiders.

“Further testing revealed that WFT TE Logan Thomas does in fact have a torn ACL as the team initially feared, per source,” Schefter tweeted on Tuesday morning. “Thomas is expected to undergo surgery this week and return in time for the 2022 season.”

Thomas was already placed on injured reserve prior to this news, so Washington’s plans for this season won’t change. Obviously, this is a crushing blow to Thomas.

Despite starting his football career as a quarterback, Thomas has transitioned into one of the most reliable tight ends in the NFL. In two seasons in Washington, he has 90 receptions for 866 yards and nine touchdowns.

Though the latest update on Thomas’ knee isn’t ideal, it sounds like he’ll be able to return in time for the 2022 season.

Thomas is under contract for the foreseeable future since he signed a three-year extension in August. Hopefully, he can make a full recovery and return to his 2020 form.
