Warner Bros. mulls future of ‘Flash’ film amid Ezra Miller’s legal trouble

Executives for Warner Bros. have started mulling the fate of the forthcoming “Flash” movie starring Ezra Miller, who has raised eyebrows in recent months with scandalous behavior and a series of arrests.

While the bigwigs have remained mostly mum on Miller’s superhero turn, a source with knowledge of the situation told the Hollywood Reporter they are preparing for three different outcomes. Their ideal scenario involves the 29-year-old actor seeking out professional assistance and then participating in an interview explaining their actions before the movie’s release in June 23, 2023.

Should Miller turn down help, he would be barred from engaging in press and publicity for the blockbuster film. It could also lead to the role being recast in any future projects.

The worst case scenario entails shelving the film entirely, according to the source, who said executives will only turn to this option as a last resort.

Miller, who was cast as the super speedy Barry Allen in 2014, first appeared as the Flash with cameo roles in “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice” and “Suicide Squad,” both released in 2016. The following year, they appeared as the superhero in Zack Snyder’s “Justice League.” The actor, who identifies as non-binary and uses “they/them” pronouns, is also known for roles in “Perks of Being a Wallflower,” “Trainwreck” and “Fantastic Beasts,” the wildly successful Harry Potter spin-off franchise.

Most recently, Miller was charged with burglary in Vermont. They’re accused of stealing several bottles of alcohol from a home in Stamford the evening of May 1. The actor has also recently faced legal trouble while in Hawaii, where they were twice arrested — the first time in March for an alleged drunken incident at a karaoke bar and then again in April for throwing a chair at a 26-year-old woman.

On Wednesday, Vermont State Police also announced they are trying to locate a 25-year-old mother and her three children who were reportedly staying with Miller at his ranch. According to court documents viewed by Rolling Stone, authorities attempted to serve an emergency care order to the woman over the weekend, requiring that the kids be taken away from the home and her care.

Miller at the time told them the family had left months ago, but authorities said it could be part of an effort to “evade” the emergency care order, adding that his account “contradicts information” they’ve uncovered amid their investigation.
