Who Wants to Be a Millionaire with Jeremy Clarkson to end
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire's upcoming series with Jeremy Clarkson will be the last with the host, it's been confirmed.
ITV boss Carolyn McCall told Variety that the upcoming batch of episodes, which are currently in production, will complete The Grand Tour presenter's existing contract.
She said: "We have a contract. We’re contracted to this [series], so we will do that. And then we have no future commitments. And we haven’t made any statements about that."
McCall had no answer when asked if the quiz show would continue on ITV after that with a different host. The original series ran between 1998 and 2014 and was hosted by Chris Tarrant.
The confirmation comes after it was reported that The Grand Tour and Clarkson's Farm had both been cancelled by Amazon Studios. That report followed comments Clarkson had made about Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, in his newspaper column.
The host issued multiple apologies, and stated that he had written "to everyone who works with me" and Prince Harry and Meghan Markle to further apologise. A spokesperson for the couple responded to claim that Clarkson "wrote solely" to Prince Harry.
McCall reiterated that ITV condemned Clarkson's column shortly after its publication, stating: "We came out much quicker than anybody else, Amazon included. We just came out said, 'Yes, we do not endorse a single word that he said on that. And there’s no place for that on ITV.'
"So we came out very quickly and just said, you know, that wasn’t on ITV. But we don’t endorse that in any way. And there’s no place for that on ITV."
Who Wants to Be a Millionaire airs on ITV.
