Want to see UNC’s Armando Bacot in ‘Outer Banks’? Here’s which episode to watch.

One UNC basketball player isn’t just a star on the court anymore. He’s also a star on streaming screens — for a few seconds, at least.

Yes, Armando Bacot makes his Netflix debut in Season 3 of the hit show “Outer Banks,” which lands on Feb. 23.

The news of Bacot’s appearance on Season 3 of “Outer Banks” was first reported last May, when he posted photos of himself with some of the show’s actors and creators on set in Charleston, South Carolina.

We’re sure the Tar Heel faithful have been eagerly waiting to see the standout player on the series, so we’ve previewed the new season to tell you everything you need to know about his appearance and how to watch.

Ready to watch Bacot on “Outer Banks?” Here’s what to know.

Warning: Light spoilers ahead.

Which episode of ‘Outer Banks’ is Armando Bacot in?

If you’re planning to watch the entire new season of “Outer Banks” from beginning to end, you’ll be well into your viewing before Bacot appears on your screen.

But if you’re impatient, or you’re only interested in watching Bacot’s cameo, we’ll clue you in so that you can skip ahead to his appearance.

Bacot appears in Episode 8 of Season 3 of “Outer Banks,” specifically around the 14:30 minute mark.

Bacot plays a bodyguard character of sorts, stepping in as source of intimidation on behalf of a minor character, Barracuda Mike, from whom main characters John B and JJ ask for help.

As JJ steps outside of the waterfront dive bar where the scene takes place to talk with Mike, John B is left behind inside with Bacot, whose character is not referred to name. Bacot’s one-word line comes from this interaction with John B.

Making awkward small talk, John B asks Bacot, “What do you guys catch out here?”

A straight-faced Bacot’s response: “Money.”

As John B and JJ leave the restaurant, Bacot’s cameo comes to a close. In all, the Tar Heel star is on screen for about two minutes.

How did Armando Bacot get on ‘Outer Banks’?

Wondering how Bacot ended up on “Outer Banks” in the first place?

Part of the arrangement came from the series creators’ ties to UNC-Chapel Hill. Two of the show’s three creators, Josh Pate and Shannon Burke, graduated from UNC and are “giant Tar Heel fans,” the show’s third creator and Josh Pate’s twin brother, Jonas Pate, told The News & Observer in an interview in January.

Josh Pate “got connected” with Bacot, Jonas Pate told The N&O, and learned that the basketball player “was a big fan of the show.”

“It just started up a friendship between Josh and Armando,” Jonas Pate said, which resulted in Josh Pate inviting Bacot to appear on the show. Filming took place not long after the Tar Heels’ run to the NCAA men’s basketball national title game last April.

“He invited him down and gave him a line,” Jonas Pate said. “It’s not like a crazy big part, but it was super fun for us, because Carolina had just gone on that crazy run last year and almost won it all. It was super fun for us because we bleed Carolina blue, pretty much.”

Jonas Pate spoke highly of Bacot and his time on the show’s set.

“He’s just a nice kid. There’s no way not to like him,” Pate said. “He’s such a hard worker. He’s such a nice person. He’s a great kid.”

Another tie to UNC basketball in ‘Outer Banks’

Eagle-eyed Tar Heel fans will likely spot another tie to UNC basketball in Episode 8 — one that’s pretty timely, given Bacot’s recent accomplishments on the court.

Very early in the episode, just about six minutes in, a character is seen wearing a Tyler Hansbrough jersey from the player’s time at UNC.

Hansbrough, whose jersey number was 50, played basketball at UNC from 2005 to 2009, winning the NCAA men’s basketball national championship with the Tar Heels that year.

As a player at UNC, Hansbrough set the school record for most career rebounds at 1,219. That record stood until Bacot himself surpassed it this season in the Tar Heels’ home game against NC State. Hansbrough was on hand in Chapel Hill to congratulate to Bacot on his achievement at that game.

State on Saturday, January 21, 2023 at the Smith Center in Chapel Hill, N.C.
