Want a free Chipotle burrito? Watch Game 1 of the NBA Finals between Denver and Miami

Basketball fans now get a chance to get a free Chipotle entrée while they watch this year's NBA Finals.

"When they hit a three, burritos are free," Chipotle announced ahead of Game 1 of the men's professional basketball championship series between the Miami Heat and Denver Nuggets set for Thursday.

Chipotle announced its "Free Pointer" promo in a statement released to USA TODAY this week. The American chain has put on promotions for the NBA Finals in the past, including a buy-one-get-one deal hidden in their television ads during last year's series.

Here's how you can score free food during this year's Finals.

How to get free Chipotle during NBA Finals

When a player hits a three-point shot, Chipotle will drop a text-to-win code via a tweet from @ChipotleTweets on Twitter, the chain said.

The first 300 fans to text the code to 888222 will win a free entrée, Chipotle said, and the business will give away up to 10,500 free entrees per game.

Fun facts

If Chipotle ran this promotion throughout the entire 2022-2023 NBA season, the chain said it would have given out more than 600,000 free entrées on Twitter − that's 7,380 per game.

If “Free-Pointer” existed for the 1979 NBA Finals, Chipotle said it would have given out "a grand total of zero burritos."

"The three-point line wasn’t invented yet, but luckily for you, it’s now a thing," Chipotle wrote in the release.

Thursday's game takes place in Denver and starts at 6:30 p.m. (MT).
